Professor Dame Sue Black is President of St John's College at the University of Oxford. After her degree and PhD in human anatomy at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, she ended up in forensic anthropology. Today, she is a leading forensic anthropologist who has been involved in many mass fatality events and war crimes investigations. She was the speaker for the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures in 2022.
Dame Sue has received multiple awards and honours over the years. Among them is the prestigious Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award in 2014, where she was recognised for her research into identification from the hand. She was also appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2001 for her investigation on war crimes in Kosovo. In 2016, she was promoted to Dame Commander of the British Empire for her contributions to forensic anthropology.
